Perry Library Behavior Policy
H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library Behavior Policy
The H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library and its board of trustees are committed to providing an atmosphere where people regardless of age, sex, ethnic origin, religion or economic status may come to access a full range of library services including a balanced, up to date collection, safe surroundings, and courteous, efficient service.
Both library users and library staff have a right to be free from harassment, discomfort, danger and stress while using the library. Therefore, it is the policy of the library to maintain a safe environment where library patrons may avail themselves of library materials and services without disturbance.
The following behaviors are considered inappropriate and unacceptable inside the library or on library property:
• Engaging in loud talking, laughter or boisterous behavior.
• Obscene, profane, abusive, or offensive language.
• Willfully annoying another person.
• Loitering on premises under circumstances that cause concern for safety or health of any person or property.
• Blocking entry aisles or traffic areas or interfering with the free movement of any person.
• Creating or causing a public disturbance.
• Use of electronic equipment, that includes but is not limited to cell phones, MP3 players, laptops and radios that disturbs or offends others.
• Taking of another's property without permission.
• Willful destruction or damage to any library property.
• Removal of any library property from the building without authorization.
• Rearranging library furniture or equipment without signed permission.
• Possession of alcohol or drugs.
• Smoking inside the building.
• Carrying weapons of any sort, except law enforcement officers.
• Bringing animals, other than those certified to assist the handicapped, into the library.
• Soliciting or selling without authorization.
• Distribution of materials or posting of notices without permission.
• Use of library telephones without permission.
• Possession of food or beverages outside of designated meeting room area.
This is a Zero Tolerance Policy. Violation of these policies may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the library. Criminal behavior will be prosecuted under the law.
