James Scott Norwood was born on December 10, 1924 in Vance County, North Carolina, the son of James Andrew Norwood and Mary Lonie Proctor Norwood. He was employed at the Greyhound Bus Terminal in Henderson, North Carolina prior to enlisting in the Navy.
S2C Norwood enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 6, 1943. He was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida when he went swimming in the surf on Sunday, October 10, 1943 and died in a drowning accident.
Seaman Second Class James Scott Norwood is buried in Nutbush Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Townsville, Vance County, North Carolina.
