Seaman Second Class Walter Christmas Jr died of rheumatic fever on March 24, 1945 in the veterans hospital at Kecoughtan, Virginia while serving in the United States Coast Guard, Reserve during World War II. He was 21 years old.
Walter Christmas, Jr. was born on May 28, 1923 in Henderson, North Carolina, the son of Walter Christmas, Sr. and Carrie Fields Christmas.
S2C Christmas entered the Coast Guard in October 1943. He trained in Brooklyn, New York and Norfolk, Virginia. He had served six months active sea duty when he became ill with rheumatic fever and died a year later on March 24, 1945.
Seaman Second Class Walter Christmas Jr is buried in Flat Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Williamsboro, North Carolina beside his brother, Private Simon Peter Christmas, who died while on active duty in the Philippines on October 19, 1945.
