November 8, 1920 - July 14, 1944
Private First Class Warren Pershing Faucette was killed in action on July 14, 1944 in near Vesly, Normandy, France during World War II. He was 23 years old.
Warren Pershing Faucette was born on November 8, 1920 in Vance County, North Carolina, the son of Jesse Thomas Faucette and Mattie Claiborne Faucette.
PFC Faucette enlisted in the United States Army in 1940. He was deployed to the European Theater of War in November, 1943 serving in the 13th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division.
After training in Ireland, the 8th Infantry Division landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, July 4, 1944, and entered combat on July 7. The first action in which elements of the 13th Infantry Regiment participated occurred on July 9, 1944, when the Third Battalion cleared out pockets of resistance in the town of La Haye du Puits, capturing approximately 100 prisoners.
On July 13, 1944, the Regiment passed through the 28th Infantry, south of La Haye du Puits. At 0800 it attacked to the south. The dense hedge-row country through which the fighting progressed was strongly defended by enemy mortar, artillery, and small arms fire. Both the First Battalion and the Third Battalion advanced steadily all day against strong resistance, and by darkness both Battalions had reached their objectives some 1800 yards south of the jump-off line. The fighting in the First Battalion area was particularly bitter near the town of Vesly where PFC Faucette was killed in action on July 14, 1944.
Private First Class Warren Pershing Faucette is buried in the Dexter Baptist Church Cemetery, Granville County, North Carolina.
